 Hamster Roomba vacuum

Behold the hamster ball Roomba. It features arches, buttons, wheels, and different shades of grey, white and black. The hamster ball Roomba required cutting, and shrinking of many different shapes in order to make the panels and different functions clear to the viewer.  It took me about an hour to make, and I am proud of it. The only thing that makes me a little sad is the lack of hamsters in tinker cad.

What inspired me to make this post was the ordinary looking Roomba's not-so-ordinary pilot. There is something about a Hamster powered Roomba that made me think "I bet this would make for a fun looking OBDF project, perfect for art school". It is not just a vacuum, it is the definition of a 'beyond creative' form of vacuum. You cannot buy it in stores, it is specifically reserved for the creator.

behold, sussy boi mcgee. the most 2022 stature ever to be sculpted by a millennial.

It is the best paperweight because it is made up of lightbulbs and stars, plus sir Lenny. I chose the objects that I did because they make the paperweight have lots of curves.

I chose daredevil masks, on top of skulls, on top of empower palatines cane because... ADHD?
It is a cool cane. It looks good with daredevil masks on skulls, on top of a golf ball with a Lenny face on it.

Slap of the bat beat- Ellie Serben

The feedback I got for my objects were that they needed a background. I am still unsure of how to make a background but there is an idea.
So, for a background I added a title, and some skulls for 'aesthetic'. It would be cool if I could colour it.

For my other 3D design structures I was told to consider adding more 'Lenny faces' and glasses to the creations as a 'Ellie Serben' trademark. My models went over well in the feedback department, my peers liked the randomness and sort of meme like appeal the objects offered. They were impressed with the creativity and most people thought the 'gamer cat', and 'Slap of the bat beat' would have made for the best ideas to put into mesh mixer. The bat hands went over well because of the in-depth models, the batman inspiration, and the overall message being presented through the symbolism of the objects grouped together. Personally, I thought the clipping of the hands and the batarang would have been brought up negatively, but it actually went over positively. The batman comics are known for giving off that dark and gruesome feeling, so the implication of the batarang cutting through the bones of the fingers fits the pungent darkness of the DC inspiration.
Slap of the bat beat could be tied to both death in the family, as well as, death of the family. As a DC enthusiast, I regard both of stories as influential and highly important chapters in the batman series. Though not everyone knows what either of those stories are, however they do know batman is dark, and they should know by now batman is in Gothman city. Batman is the super hero of Gotham city, so one could put 2 and 2 together that batman is holding the heart of Gotham, or possibly, batman is in the heart of Gotham, (both work equally for those who love symbolism). A bit of a personal 'Ellie' touch is the quote at the bottom of the paper weight, "rev up your Harley". Although not many people know what this means, or they think it is referring to a Harley Davidson Motorcycle, it is a bit of the comical Harley Quinn flare squeezing its way into the meme factor of the 3D object.

Sculptures Hand-Cut from Single Sheets of Paper by Nahoko Kojima

Migration

"Japanese paper artist Nahoko Kojima cuts intricate sculptures of animals, textures, and other natural phenomenon from single sheets of paper, some of which are displayed encased in acrylic sheets while others like her Cloud Leopard are installed as 3D artworks."

Nahoko Kojima's works are incredibly detailed, abstract, works made on thin pieces on paper. They are flexible pieces, featuring negative space. Despite paper being rigid and flat, the designs are loose and flowing. Similar to how a pumpkin is carved, Nahoko's designs, are made by cutting the negative space, revealing the outline of the creation afterwards. Her designs look as if they were drawn by sharpie and are left floating on display. "her large-scale works are each hand cut from a single sheet, exploring themes of human existence, animals and the forces of nature".
Her works are suspended in the air via strings, or they are framed on a wall. They are all made with material which makes the sculpture appear shiny. Some of her designs are made to appear 2D, and others are made to appear 3D based on how the paper is folded. The sculptures are large, with certain spaces revealing details on the other side of the sculpture, like a looking glass.

Her work inspires me because of the artistic detail. It reminds me the meditative colouring books, made with swirling lines and abstract versions of flowers and animals.
I selected this work because the visual detail caught my eye immediately. The comic like line work, and precise structure committed to making the figures is amazing. The way the feathers look in the migration piece is stunning because of its realism. I could imagine myself making art pieces of my comic book characters, and specific scenes using
Nahoko's method. This method would also go well in making sculptures of plants, and shadows, with consideration towards the fluid movement of the paper.
Because the paper is hand cut, the materials required would be different blades, similarly to an exacto knife. I could see the paper being used to create forms such waves and patterns. It would go well on subjects such as those in a military setting, city settings, and surreal environments such as dark shadowy places such as hell.

4.) Process

I made a cross, because God help me, I split my thumb open with an exacto knife.
I laser cut the final version of the cross, however the tabs still struggled to hold together.
I scrapped the white cross prototype because the bottom and top of it has blood on it.

Behold the first part of the prototype. This version was going great until the exacto-knife sliced through a ruler that my left hand was holding.

Okay, this versions better. It was cut using a laser cutter.

This is a small simple crucifix, but it works for this assignment since it needed to get done in less than 48 hours. The only struggle with this assignment was the glue, the tabs just wouldn't stay glued, Jesus is fragile

1.) For each of your five concepts and evaluate them based on the following criteria:

a.) Function - how does this object function? Is is successful in doing so?

it is a small paperweight

b.) Form - what are the aesthetic qualities of this object?

shape and form

c.) Self-supporting - is this object self-supporting? Will it print without support material?

Yes

d.) 3D Printability - Is this 3D model water tight and ready to print? What is its likelihood for success in printing?

It is not a very complex object so it should be able to print without difficulty

2.) Choose the most successful concept based on this criteria, and create a 3d-printable model in rhino. Your object must be a CLOSED SOLID POLYSURFACE.

3.) The printed object must fit within a 3 inch (x) by 3 inch (y) by 5 inch (z) box

4.) Simulate the 3D print your final design in PrusaSlic3r software.

I enjoyed the making of efficient yet also simple objects. I know my objects were more simple than other students objects, however I love my projects all the same. The making of the butterfly was favorite. It was my first time getting to make my own psychical merchandise! I am excited to do this again in the future.

The papercraft assignment was innovative and challenging. I felt a little sad I wasn't able to make the military crest like how I originally hoped. The cross was far more simple and it took less time. However with my thumb being wounded I needed simple, just so it would be psychically easier. Psychically, the cross is not a lot, but personally it relates to my faith and my family, to me simple shapes can have bigger meanings than one might expect.
